Mendel's garden and the remaining
foundation of his greenhouse

During a sabbatical project in Germany in 2006, I made a "pilgrimage" to the Abbey in Brno, Czeck Republic where Gregor Mendel conducted his plant breeding experiments which laid the foundation for our understanding for how traits are handed down from parents to offspring.

The first picture is of a young man who, after I had searched for an hour for lodging, at 10:30 PM, accompanied me for the next 45 minutes from full hotel to full hotel, and finally insisted that I sleep in his apartment. Talk about the kindness of strangers!
