Settlers who illegally squat
in apartments, throw trash and concrete down on passersby
The access roads into Hebron all have Israeli checkpoints which may
take anywhere from five minutes to two hours to pass through:
Israel often blocks Palestinian roads with concrete rubble to prevent
movement by Palestinians between neighborhoods:
In Hebron: a bakery makes pita, a shop sells local olives, the mosque housing Abraham's tomb sits adjacent to a synagogue (Site of a massacre of 27 Muslim worshipers by Dr. Goldstein several years back.) Women were required to completely cover up prior to entering the mosque.
Settlers have systematically squatted in apartments overlooking Hebron
streets. In the left picture, Israeli troops have established
military posts to protect these settlers (note camoflague and the
Israeli flag, in the middle of the officially Palestinian town.
In the right picture, settlers drop pieces of concrete and trash down
on passersby below. Hebron citizes have covered the openings with
wire screen to protect walkers below from injury. <>
The hills surrounding Hebron are covered with centuries-old olive
groves. Israel has defined such groves as "unoccupied," and has
routinely confiscated these lands, chain sawed the trees, and erected
settlements on the overlooking ridges. >
