These slides are from the Anatomy and Physiology 203 slide set. Please handle them with care and return them to their correct location in the box when finished. Hold the slide up to the light to get a feel for the specimen, and see if you can detect any structural features. Then examine each slide at low power to find the field which best shows the listed features. Then illustrate the view, label the indicated features and briefly describe their functions

MALE:

1. Testis, Monkey, 400x

Slide 12 (H9700)

seminiferous tubules

basement membrane

spermatogonia (on basement membrane)

primary spermatocytes

secondary spermatocytes

spermatids (small & round)

spermatozoa (have pointy heads, flagella)

lumen (empty space in a tube)

interstitial tissue (stands between tubules, synthesizes testosterone)

antrum ("empty space" in follicle)

ovum (suspended inside the follicle)

corona radiata (crown of cells around ovum)

granulosa cells (these make androgens)

theca interna (convert androgens to estrogen

just outside the Graaf.follicle)
