FIELD TRIP TO CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL CYTOGENETICS LAB



UC Clermont College's Genetics class took a field trip to Dr. Ruth Blough's Cytogenetics Lab at Children's Hospital, 27 Feb 2003.



Techniques for karyotyping human cells were demonstrated.  Here are several low power views of the cells:

            


The magnification is increased, and a filter used to enhance contrast. 

A picture is taken of the chromosome display, and the crhomosomes are sorted to make a karyotype.
Here a technician is pointing out the chromosomes which she has marked and will soon sort.
