|Welcome to the UC – Clermont
College Biology Home Page.
*** Transferring? ***
Are you trying to decide where to transfer after you get your Associate degree here at Clermont? Many of you are not free to leave town, and therefore are considering transferring to Clifton, Northern Kentucky University, or another local school such as Wilmington. Others might be planning to go to vet school at Ohio State or to Pharmacy or Med School “downtown.” For those of you planning on majoring in biology, if you are interested in areas such as genetics, cell biology, microbiology, etc., you might find Clifton’s program a better match for your interests, while those of you who are more interested in field or organismal biology areas such as ecology, wildlife, forestry, etc., might find NKU’s program to be a better match. NKU even offers a course that includes field biology in Costa Rica! For those of you who are free to move out of town and who may be seeking something “different” or may be struggling with the cost of continuing your education, there are a couple of schools to which former Clermont Biology majors have transferred and about which they have been very excited. Evergreen State College is located on the coastline of Washington state, in an area that is classified as “rain forest”. Their Web site says they offer programs in biology, botany, and various marine-related subjects. For those interested in marine biology, this sounds like an excellent alternative to programs in Florida or Hawaii for which “everybody else” is applying/competing. Evergreen’s unique interdisciplinary approach to courses sounds interesting. In addition to a good biology program, Berea College, located a couple hours south of here off I-75, has an unique financial aid program to help lower-income students of Appalachian background succeed in college. Students run the historic Boone Tavern Hotel (go spend a night, sometime), its restaurant, and a craft shop featuring student-created art/craft items.
